Decking

Wooden Decking

Timber decking creates a warm, natural platform for seating, dining or simply enjoying the garden, and it works well on sloping or uneven ground where paving would be difficult. We build every deck on a solid, ventilated frame with the right fixings, so it stays firm, level and safe underfoot for years.

  • A solid, ventilated sub-frame with proper footings
  • Treated timber decking boards in your chosen profile
  • Balustrades, steps and skirting as needed
  • Fixings suited to timber movement
  • Optional lighting set into the deck

Our process

Our process, step by step

How your project runs, from the first visit to the finished job.

  1. 1

    Design and quote

We agree the size, shape and board and price it in writing.

  2. 2

    Build the frame

Footings go in and a ventilated sub-frame is built to carry the boards.

  3. 3

    Lay the boards

Boards are screwed down with consistent gaps so water clears through.

  4. 4

    Finish

Steps, balustrade and any lighting go on last.

FAQs

Wooden Decking questions

Timber or composite decking?

Timber is cheaper to buy and feels warmer underfoot, but it wants re-treating every year or so. Composite costs more on day one and then asks almost nothing of you. We build both and will give you a straight answer for your garden.

Is decking slippery when wet?

Bare timber can be, once algae takes hold. Grooved or anti-slip boards help, and a wash each spring does more for the grip than anything else.

How much maintenance does timber need?

A clean and a coat of treatment once a year. Leave it for a few seasons and the timber greys off and starts to split.

Can decking go on a slope?

Yes. Decking is ideal for sloping or uneven ground, where the frame is built up to give you a level platform.
